---ABOUT The Restless Beehive---
Why this exists
When symptoms are missed, minimised or put down to stress, people are left without answers and without trust. These gaps in care are rarely deliberate, and they can happen to anyone, but they fall hardest on some groups more than others. They can leave people frightened, exhausted and unwilling to go back, and in the worst cases, they cost lives.
Not us versus them
Let's get this out of the way: we're not here to blame individual doctors. Most people go into medicine to help, and many are working in a system that gives them ten minutes, too few colleagues and too little time to think.
Patients can feel unheard. Clinicians can feel unable to listen. Both can be true at once, and neither is fixed by shouting. So we name problems, not people. We ask hospitals, health bodies and decision-makers hard questions, politely and persistently, and we'd like patients and clinicians in the same room when the answers get worked out.
If you work in healthcare, we want to hear from you too, in confidence if you prefer.
What TRB does
Publish stories. With your permission, we turn your experience into a page on this site. This takes time, and there's no rush.
Investigate. We look at the patterns behind the stories, using data, Freedom of Information requests and interviews.
We listen to clinicians. There are more than two sides to every story. We want to understand the pressures on the health professional's side too.
Support each other. Our forum is a place for peer support and for sharing what's helped.
Ask for change. We're part of a wider push for patients to be listened to, for more transparency about how dismissal is handled, and for practical ways to address it.
FORTY TWO THINGS WE THOUGHT WE KNEW BUT DI NOT KNOW
A DELIGHT. a hand-painted deck of 42 cards, each one a moment when medicine was confidently wrong, or right and ignored. From the "sacred disease" to Semmelweis and handwashing, from Charcot's hysteria to Cajal's neurons, plus a few predictions about what we might be getting wrong right now. Some of today's certainties will make future readers wince. We'd like to be the ones who noticed first.
Got a moment that belongs in the deck? Tell us. Stay curious.
What we're not
The Restless Beehive is a media and community project run by Floating Rib Ltd. We are not a health service, a law firm, a charity or a crisis service. Nothing on this site is medical advice, a diagnosis or legal advice, and it can't replace a conversation with a qualified professional. We can't diagnose you. (We also won't tell you it's just stress.)
If you're worried about your health, contact your GP or call NHS 111. In an emergency, call 999. Please don't use the forum for emergencies, as we can't monitor it around the clock.
We can't investigate or resolve individual complaints, but we can point you to PALS, the Independent Complaints Advocacy Service, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and the CQC.
How we handle stories
You choose how much to share and whether to use your name. Anonymity is welcome.
We'll agree in writing how your story will be used before publishing, and you can ask us to change or remove it. It may take days or months, and there is no pressure.
We check stories where we can. If a hospital, trust or clinician is identifiable in a published story, we ask for their response and publish it alongside.
We follow the Editors' Code of Practice and the NUJ Code of Conduct.
Experiences shared here are personal accounts, and views are the contributors' own.
Our independence
Anyone who supports this project, whether a media partner, sponsor or funder, doesn't get to choose, preview or soften what we publish. They don't get access to your stories or your data, and we'll always say who they are.
Your privacy
Health information is sensitive, and we treat it that way. We collect only what we need, keep it securely, never sell your data, and you can ask us to delete it. See our Privacy Policy for the details.
Community guidelines
Be kind. Disagree respectfully. This is a support space.
Share your own experience. Say "this is what happened to me" rather than stating things as facts about others.
Don't name individual health professionals or other patients on the forum. You can name a hospital or department. If you want to tell a named story, contact us and we'll handle it properly.
No medical advice. Share what you've learned, but don't tell others what to take or stop taking.
Protect privacy. Don't post anyone's personal details, including your own contact details.
No abuse, harassment, misinformation or promotion of unproven treatments.
We may remove posts that break these guidelines or put people at risk, and we'll tell you why where we can.
If you're struggling
Sharing these experiences can be painful. If you're in distress, please reach out: Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7), your GP, or NHS 111. In an emergency, call 999.
Concerns, corrections and takedown requests
If you think something on the site is inaccurate, defamatory or breaches your privacy, email restlessbeehive@gmail.com with the page link, what you're concerned about and why. We'll review it promptly and aim to respond within 48 hours.

Who's behind it
I'm Rebecca, a journalist, editor and publisher with experience across medical publishing, law, local and national journalism, finance, travel and independent media. I have written for The Guardian, local newspapers, worked as a travel editor and founded two local magazines. In 2022, a neurological disease profoundly changed my life and removed me from the career and independence I had worked to build. The Restless Beehive grew from that experience: an independent campaign examining medical dismissal, diagnostic overshadowing and inequality in healthcare, and asking what needs to change.
The Restless Beehive is managed by Floating Rib Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 16196574. Registered office 1 Park Rd N8. ICO registration number: ZB894975.
